Faculty Credentialing & CompensationSpecialistGeneral Description: The Faculty Credentialingand Compensation Specialist role supports the recruitment, hiringand retention of faculty in compliance with VCCS and NOVA policiesand procedures and with SACS accreditation standards. The FacultyCredentialing and Compensation Specialist is responsible for theevaluation of faculty teaching, administrative, and professionalpositions to determine qualifications and rank eligibility. Thisposition is responsible for reviewing and processing overloads,workload exceptions, reassigned time, promotion reviews, multi-yearrecommendations and additional compensation requests in variousformats for faculty members. The position is also tasked withresearching and troubleshooting adjunct faculty pay, workload andcontract concerns, and assists with special projects, audits, andother activities.The Faculty Credentialing and Compensation Specialist willregularly review, recommend, and modify business processes asneeded to maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of thoseprocesses. The Credential Specialist will develop workingrelationships with Division personnel to address Division needs anddevelop working relationships with external businesses andagencies.Knowledge: Knowledge of Commonwealth andCollege’s human resource policies and procedures. Knowledge of SACSaccreditation requirements and guidelines. Knowledge of principlesand procedures in the recruitment, selection and retention ofemployees. Knowledge of principles and procedures for providingcustomer and personal services. This includes customer needsassessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluationof customer satisfaction. Knowledge of administrative proceduresand systems; including managing files and records and ensuringappropriate confidentiality in regard to personnel information.Knowledge of business and management principles involved instrategic planning, resource allocation, human resource modeling,leadership techniques, and coordination of people andresources.Skills: Communication comprehension skills tounderstand and interpret written policies and procedures.Communicate effectively in both written and oral formats asappropriately needed for the audience. Active listening skills ingiving full attention to what other people are saying, taking timeto understand others’ points of view, and asking appropriatequestions. Use critical thinking skills by identifying anddetermining alternative solutions and conclusions/approaches toproblems. Decision-making skills that considers relative costs andbenefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate actionto take.Abilities: Ability to communicate informationand ideas so others will understand. Ability to recognize whensomething is wrong or is likely to go wrong and appropriatelycommunicate the issue. The ability to analyze and providerecommendations to changes or modifications to existing proceduresand processes. Ability to develop constructive and cooperativeworking relationships with others and maintain them over time.Ability to compile, categorize, calculate, audit and verify humanresources information and data. Ability to prioritize andmanagement multiple tasks and work in fast-paced environment;ability to work with interruptions. Ability to exercise goodjudgment, discretion and confidentiality. Demonstrated ability tomaintain automated databases, perform automated report management,and produce automated reports.Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree inBusiness, Human Resources or related field or a combination ofrelated education, experience and training. Experience in HumanResources. Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook,Word, Excel and AccessPreferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree orhigher in Human Resources or similar field. Considerable experiencein Human Resources, in academic administration, and/or evaluatingcredentials for teaching. Expert level proficiency with MicrosoftWord, Excel and Access.
