Suspect in killing of Delaware trooper ID’d after being shot dead in hourslong standoff

first_imgartolympic/iStock/Thinkstock(MIDDLETOWN, Del.) — The suspect in Wednesday’s fatal shooting of a Delaware state trooper was shot and killed Thursday after an hours-long standoff with authorities, according to the Delaware State Police.Various police agencies had surrounded the evacuated area in Middletown where the suspect barricaded himself in a residence on St. Michaels Drive in the Brick Mill Farm development.Police identified him as Burgon Sealy, 26. After he fled the scene of the shooting at the Wawa convenience store in Bear, Delaware, he contacted family members to say he had shot the trooper, police said in a news conference this afternoon. The family members then contacted law enforcement, who tracked Sealy to his home.Earlier Thursday morning, authorities managed to breach numerous windows with explosives but had not yet entered the home. Officers were attempting to make contact with the suspect and were continuing to attempt to persuade him to surrender, state police said. The armed suspect, believed to have been inside the residence alone, fired more rounds on authorities Thursday around 4 a.m. ET, according to state police. There were no reported injuries. The suspect exited the residence at 9:17 a.m. ET and “engaged police,” officials said. He was then shot by law enforcement and pronounced dead at the scene at 9:29 a.m. ET, state police said.Residents in the area remain evacuated. The Odessa Fire Company has opened its facility to temporarily house the evacuated residents. The standoff stemmed from Wednesday’s shooting that claimed the life of Cpl. Stephen Ballard, an eight-year veteran of the Delaware State Police.Around 10 a.m. ET Wednesday, Ballard observed a vehicle in the parking lot of a Wawa convenience store in Bear, Delaware. When the trooper made contact with its occupants, a struggle ensued, state police said. One of the two unnamed suspects then exited the vehicle and fired several rounds at the trooper, striking him. Ballard, 32, was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to state police. The investigation into the fatal shooting is ongoing. One of the suspects was taken into custody without incident. The second suspect fled on foot before additional troopers arrived and had since barricaded himself in the residence, state police said. The suspect refused orders to surrender while continuing to fire at police officers.Copyright © 2017, ABC Radio. Bob does the double

first_imgPSC Golf from Mulligans LakesideTuesday, Feb. 15, Crystal Bay – StablefordTuesday was a visit to Crystal Bay, where our test was to be the B & C combination.  However the real test of the day was the weather with miserable, heavy rain making keeping grips dry impossible.  The rain was so heavy at one stage that it necessitated a delay as greens were unplayable. Bob Edwards (12) coped best with the conditions to record a solid 32 points, edging Allan Cassin (11) who signed for 31 points, pipping Monte Sykes (6) on count-back 11/10.   The count-back scores were a result of the wet conditions, as both had played good golf on the front 9.Tuesday’s top twosome of Allan and Bob relax at Mulligans Lakeside.Near Pins were spread around between Allan, Joel and Tony, who incidentally converted for a nice birdie 2.Thursday, Feb. 17, Treasure Hill – StablefordThursday saw the group travel north to Treasure Hill where we played from the white tees, making it a good test for the day.  Again it was Bob Edwards (12) leading the way with 35 points, shading Monte Sykes (6) into second on count-back 19/15.  That made 2 games this week Monte got edged on count-back.  He did gain his revenge however with winning 3 near pins, converting one for birdie 2, while K got the other one.Note:  Mulligans Lakeside plays golf generally on Tuesday & Thursday (we sometimes change to accommodate a Thai Holiday).  Presentations are made at the course on Tuesday, with Mulligans Lakeside hosting the Thursday presentation.  For more details on scheduling etc., please call 089 094 1841 or 081 935 8088.  Hope to see you there, Cheers & Good Golfing!last_img read more

(John Minchillo/AP Images for Athletes Quarterly)SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) _ LaMarr Woodley has created a football camp he hopes will provide exposure for overlooked prospects. The NFL linebacker and former Michigan star plans to host his first CAMP 56 July 13-14 at the Legacy Center Sports Complex in Brighton, Michigan.Woodley wants to help 110 high school students, none of whom have been heavily recruited, get the attention of college coaches.“My main goal for wanting to start a new type of camp was to give high school players, who might not be heavily recruited because they’re at smaller schools or other reasons, the chance to be seen and possibly signed by college coaches,” said Woodley. “There are kids out there with a ton of talent who don’t get much, or any exposure to recruiters, and my hope is that we can build the gap that provides them with that opportunity.”He says academics will be stressed at the two-day camp, which will include visits from university academic advisers and experts familiar with NCAA rules and standardized testing. CAMP 56 expects to have a staff of college and pro coaches and players, including Woodley, who has played for Arizona, Oakland and Pittsburgh.Woodley will also host a free camp July 16 in his hometown of Saginaw, Michigan.___Online:http://www.lamarrwoodleyfoundation.comlast_img read more
